Cataract surgical planning depends on a handful of measurements taken in the minutes before a consultation ends. Every extra touchpoint between technician and patient is a chance for variability to creep in — which is the problem the AX500 was built to solve.
Why we built it
Clinics running high patient volumes told us the same thing during our 2024 field research: axial length, keratometry, and anterior chamber depth were often captured on three separate devices, each requiring its own alignment and its own margin for technician error. The AX500 combines all three into a single 20-second capture on one instrument.

Early adopter clinics in Guangzhou and Warsaw ran the AX500 alongside their existing biometers for six weeks. Across more than 400 paired measurements, axial length readings varied by less than 0.02mm between devices — within the AX500’s stated resolution.
What’s new
The AX500 ships with 17 built-in IOL power formulas, including Barrett Universal II and Hoffer Q, and flags any capture that falls outside expected confidence bounds rather than leaving interpretation to the technician. A guided alignment sequence on the 10.4″ touchscreen walks new staff through a repeatable capture process from day one.

Availability
